Orientation: (non)fictional places that raised me

Orientation was created in response to the project brief to create a 'mapbook'. Drawing influence from a childhood filled with fiction books, and a move from the country to the city, a series of place illustrations were created. These illustrations used bright colours to illustrate the vibrancy of childhood imagination and feature important places both real and imagined.

The sculptural form of the book was inspired by the Turkish map fold, with the final form being able to stand independently as an object as well as a  book. The progressively smaller pages layer up to create a flower of information within a relatively inconspicuous package. The title comes from the influence that a difficulty navigating real and imagined worlds had on the final piece, and references the maps that inspired it.
